Beethoven opened the season and Beethoven closes it, and his Eroica is now a symbol of the heroic struggle of us all. A shy admirer, Schubert’s Third is music for many to discover – all its freshness, beauty and occasional flashes of genius foreshadow a great composer-to-be. Máté Bella is a celebrated composer of our time, who, regardless of style or form, has been able to create not only quality but also success in recent years. His new work, commissioned by our orchestra, is a fitting tribute to the music of his great predecessors, showing that music is alive and wants to live.
